St. Clair Italian Spaghetti

This comes all the way from the Lewiston, Maine Fire Department.  This recipe serves 6 fire fighters.  Hey, "What's for Dinner?"

Directions

Prep 15 m   |   Cook 2 h   |   Ready in 2 h 15 m

Ingredients:

1/2 cup onions

1/2 pound ground beef / pork

2 teaspoons olive oil

1 teaspoon butter / margarine

1 10.5-ounce can of tomato soup

1 6-ounce can of tomato paste

1 16-ounce can of tomato - drained

1 10-ounce can of beef broth

1 teaspoon oregano

1/2 teaspoon sugar

salt and pepper

  1. Chop onions and garlic.
  2. Brown onions and ground beef in olive oil.
  3. Add butter, garlic, and remaining sauce ingredients.
  4. Simmer about 2 hours until thickened. Stir occasionally.
  5. Skim off excess fat.
  6. Serve hot with cooked spaghetti.

    Note:  A whole raw potato can be added to absorb grease while sauce is simmering.  Remove potato when soft.
